Head of School
Kristen Jordison became the Head of School at BASIS Scottsdale in 2016 after two years as the Head of School of BASIS Ahwatukee. Prior to this Mrs. Jordison was the Director of Compliance and Governmental Affairs for BASIS.ed. Mrs. Jordison has worked with and on behalf of charter schools in Arizona since 1995. Prior to her tenure with BASIS, she served as Executive Director of the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools, the nation’s largest charter school authorizer. In that position she was responsible for both the academic and fiscal oversight of all Arizona charter schools, strategic planning and implementation, policy development, implementation and coordination, and the development of relationships with educational partners. Mrs. Jordison holds a Master’s Degree in social sciences from the University of Utah.
Head of Operations
Suzanne Miller, the Head of Operations of BASIS Scottsdale, served previously as Head of Operations at BASIS Chandler, Payroll Administrator, and School Accountant for BASIS.ed. Prior to joining the BASIS.ed Finance Division in January 2012, she was the Business Manager at Imagine Tempe charter school and spent seven years as the Director of Finance with The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale. Mrs. Miller earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Alaska, Anchorage and is currently pursuing an M.B.A at Grand Canyon University.
Scottsdale has been her residence since 1988 where she and her husband raised two children and spoiled a variety of pets. Her current household pet population consists of two yappy yorkies and one very quiet desert tortoise. She is learning to play the harp and enjoys serving as the director of her church handbell choir and performing with community handbell ensembles.
Director of Middle School Program
Brittany Afsa is the Director of Middle School Program for BASIS Scottsdale. She will be a new addition to the BASIS Scottsdale team for the 2016-2017 school year. Ms. Afsa earned her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in 2010 from Arizona State University. Shortly after she earned her Masters in Educational Administration and Supervision from Arizona State University in 2013. Ms. Afsa has 7 years of experience working for a charter school organization in a variety of capacities. She has spent her career in education working as an Elementary Teacher, Instructional Coach, and Vice Principal. Ms. Afsa has worked with a wide range of students throughout the Phoenix area. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family, running, hiking, and anything that involves being active!
Director of Upper School Program
Brittany Silbaugh is the Director of Upper School Program for BASIS Scottsdale. She joined BASIS Scottsdale in 2014 as the SPED Coordinator. Mrs. Silbaugh earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of Arizona in 2004 and her Masters of Education Degree with an emphasis in Special Education from Northcentral University in 2014. She has spent her career in education working as a Special Education teacher and director working with a wide range of students throughout the Phoenix metro area. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, son and three rescue dogs. She is also very actively involved in fostering and fundraising for a local dog rescue.
Director of Academic Programs
Tyler Garvey is the Director of Academic Programs at BASIS Scottsdale. Mr. Garvey joined BASIS Scottsdale for the 2011-2012 school year teaching both Lower and Upper School math. Born and raised in Colorado, Mr. Garvey earned his degree in Mathematics after graduating with distinction from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2006. He made the move across the country to Arizona after four years of teaching in Vermont and is excited about his transition into administration. Away from work, Mr. Garvey enjoys spending time with family, reading and being outside running and cycling.
